  1. Mushroom plastic: It can replace polystyrene foam and polystyrene products, and is widely used in many fields. It is believed that mycelial mats have the potential to be a biofilter, removing chemicals and microorganisms from soil and water. The use of fungal mycelium to achieve this goal is known as mycelial filtration.

  2. Advantages: Fungal packaging compared to traditional plastic, mushroom plastic is not only lower cost, but also can be fireproof and waterproof, and can decompose in about a month after reaching the use period of burial. Edible mycelium packaging material can be grown in a controlled environment within a week and degraded in a short time, the material has the same insulation and flame retardancy as polystyrene.

  3. Applications: MycoWorks started to produce mycelium furniture, mycelium bricks, and mycelium leather, and Ecovative produced foam from mycelium (mushroom roots) and agricultural waste. It is expected to replace existing polystyrene-based plastics in packaging, construction, transportation, and other fields.
