Fire claims 300,000 lives every year, in order to prevent fire, dramatic amounts of fire retardants are applied on sofa, computer, vehicle, curtain etc., however, the soaring demand for fire retardants introducing toxic chemicals into people’s life, related new regulations to reduce toxic chemicals provide unique opportunities for startups. Mats Nilsson, Trulstech’s founder, inspired by his grandfather’s story, coming up with this brilliant solution—a food level fire retardant using grape and citrus waste. The innovation is not only substitute one chemical with another, it solved two critical environmental and healthy problems simultaneously. Recycle grape and citrus waste prevent the emissions caused by food waste, helping the climate change; utilizing bio- materials solving the health problems caused by the toxicity of flame retardants. The principle behind this invention is that when an organic acid and an inorganic base react, which generates a strong exothermal reaction, the temperature rises and it creates a barrier for fire on the surface so that heat does not spread and fire does not propagate throughout.
